und international einen Ruf erspielt hat, seinen Sound selbst als Black Forest Psychedelic Soulrock. Stilmittel und Sounds aus der Goldenen Ära
des Rock ‚n‘ Roll, den 60s & 70s, bilden das Fundament für den Sound Of Smoke: Hypnotisches & treibendes Schlagzeug, donnernder Bass mit
AMPEG knarzen im Stile eines gewissen Lemmy K., eine elektrische Gitarre im California-Twang gepaart mit sphärischen Echo- & Fuzz-Sounds,
sowie oszillierende Synthesizer à la Hawkwind. Last but not least: Leadsängerin Isabelle, die mit ihrem Gesang so manche Soullegende wieder für
einen Moment aufleben lässt, dabei aber stets ihrem eigenen Stil treu bleibt. Abgerundet wird die Show von Isabelles individueller Bühnenshow,
welche noch Ihresgleichen sucht und die Zuschauer*innen in den Bann zieht!
GESCHICHTE DER BAND
Das Psychedelic Soulrock Quartett aus Freiburg im Breisgau gibt es bereits ein ganzes Jahrzehnt. Im März 2016 hatte die Band in der jetzigen Formation ihren ersten Jam. 2017 brachte die Band noch mit Zweitem Gitarristen ihre erste EP ELEUTHEROMANIA (11/2017) heraus, welche mehr von Hard Rock und Metal geprägt war. Das Stilprägende Element in Form von Isabelles soulgeladener Stimme wusste die Band jedoch schon damals gezielt hervorzuheben. Ab 2018 trat man dann in der bekannten Formation und mit bluesigerem, psychedelischeren Sound auf. Anschließendes intensives Touren durch Deutschland und Teile Europas folgten und Sound Of Smoke erarbeiteten sich einen respektablen Ruf als Liveband mit packender Bühnenperformance ihrer charismatischen Leadsängerin. 2022 unterschrieb die Band ihren ersten Vertrag beim Label Tonzonen Records und brachte ihr erstes Langspielalbum TALES (02/2022) heraus. Ein Jahr später folgte PHASES (02/2023). Mit MIRAGE (03/2026) veröffentlicht die Band pünktlich zum 10 jährigen Geburtstag das dritte Studioalbum Album über Tonzonen Records.

Sound Of Smoke from Freiburg im Breisgau play a hip mix of soul, blues,
stoner, psychedelic, and krautrock with a healthy dose of vintage vibe. The quartet, which has been rocking the Freiburg concert scene for 10 years
and has long since earned a reputation both regionally and internationally, describes its sound as Black Forest Psychedelic Soulrock. Stylistic
elements and sounds from the golden era of rock 'n' roll, the 60s and 70s, form the foundation of Sound Of Smoke: hypnotic and driving drums,
a thunderous bass with AMPEG growls in the style of a guy called Lemmy K., an electric guitar with California twang paired with atmospheric echo
and fuzz sounds, and oscillating synthesizers à la Hawkwind. Last but not least: lead singer Isabelle, whose vocals bring many a soul legend back to
life for a moment. The show is rounded off by Isabelle's unique stage performance, which is truly one of a kind and captivates the audience!

HISTORY OF THE BAND
The psychedelic soul-rock quartet from Freiburg im Breisgau has been around for a whole decade. The band, in its current lineup, had
its first jam session in March 2016. In 2017, still with a second guitarist, they released their first EP, ELEUTHEROMANIA (November 2017),
which was more influenced by hard rock and metal. However, the band already knew how to highlight the defining element of their s
tyle: Isabelle's soulful voice. From 2018 onwards, they performed in their current lineup with a bluesier, more psychedelic sound.
Intensive touring throughout Germany and parts of Europe followed, and Sound Of Smoke earned a respectable reputation as a live band
with a captivating stage presence, thanks to their charismatic lead singer. In 2022, the band signed their first contract with the label
Tonzonen Records and released their first full-length album, TALES (February 2022). A year later, PHASES followed (February 2023).
With MIRAGE (March 2026), the band released their third studio album on Tonzonen Records, coinciding with their 10th anniversary.

Lange war es ruhig um Sound Of Smoke aus Freiburg im Breisgau. Nach dem erfolgreichen Album PHASES (2023, Tonzonen Records) erhielt das
Quartett viel Zuspruch aus der deutschen und internationalen Szene. Durch persönliche Veränderungen – etwa ein Baby und einen Umzug – entschied
sich die Band, das Touren zu reduzieren und sich stärker dem Songwriting zu widmen. Im März 2026 erscheint nun das neue Album MIRAGE, das an
den charakteristischen Psychedelic Soulrock-Sound anknüpft: treibende Schlagzeugbeats, donnernder Bass, sphärische Gitarren, Synthesizer und
Isabelle Baptés soulige Stimme mit Flöteneinsätzen. Das Artwork von Mirkow Gastow zeigt die Band in einer surrealen Wüstenlandschaft unter greller
Sonne, umgeben von Planeten und Pilzen – ein visuelles Sinnbild für den psychedelischen Trip, den die Musik vermittelt. Aufgenommen wurde MIRAGE im
Big Snuff Studio in Berlin, erneut mit Produzent Richard Behrens und dem vertrauten Vintage-Equipment, das schon PHASES seinen warmen Klang verlieh.
In zehn Studiotagen entstanden neun Songs, die den typischen Sound Of Smoke weiterentwickeln: funkige Soul-Elemente, härterer Bluesrock,
ausgedehnte Gitarrensoli und experimentelle Synthesizer. Neu sind auch zwei deutschsprachige Titel („Röntgenstrahlen“ und „Zweierlei“), die Stonerrock
und Neue Deutsche Welle kombinieren. MIRAGE bietet damit eine abwechslungsreiche Reise durch verschiedene Stilrichtungen, bleibt aber dank
der unverwechselbaren Atmosphäre und des organischen Bandsounds klar als Sound Of Smoke erkennbar. Insgesamt zeigt sich die Band gereift, kreativ
und zugleich ihrer musikalischen Linie treu.

Here we have a very interesting band out of Freiburg, Germany that was formed in 2016 and is now ready to release their first full-length debut album Tales. The band’s line up consists of Isabelle Bapté - vocals, keys, Jens Stöver – guitar, Florian Kiefer – bass and Johannes Braunstein – drums, and their music is a fascinating mix of psychedelic rock, blues, classic rock and a bit of funky soul. The resulting album Tales is a lovely piece of work that consists of 7 strong original songs. Isabelle shines on vocals, and she also plays some cool sounding keys, while the guitarwork is straight out of the classic 70s groovy hardrocking book and the rhythm section surely knows how to keep up with them and improvise here and there (especially during the almost progrocking closing track Human Salvation). All sounds great here and I am quite sure that we will hear much more of SOUND OF SMOKE in the future.
Here and there we can find some similarities to BLUES PILLS and WHEN RIVERS MEET, but on the other hand SOUND OF SMOKE does have an own identity! This is how original rock should sound like

German Psychedelic Blues act Sound of Smoke have released their first full-length LP, titled Tales via Tonzonen Records. The seven-track release is a follow up to debut EP Eleutherumania. The band, hailing from Freiburg, Germany, consist of lead vocalist Isabell Bapte, guitarist Jens Stover, bassist Florian Kiefer and drummer Johannes Braunstein. The album blends blues, 70's psychedelia and soulful vocals to create a fresh retro sound. The LP begins with the Billie Holiday
cover "Strange Fruits", Bapte does the song justice with a sultry and tender timbre over distorted guitar breaks that reverberate like a songbird on a summer's morning. Next up is "Witch Boogie" with a riff like Norman Greenbaum's 'Spirit in The Sky". Bapte's deep vocals soothe over thunderous drums and bassline that roll along like Bapte's vocals on this track. Isabell Bapte reminds me of a young Grace Slick full of emotion and feeling. The guitar work is equally impressive with a hypnotic edge with crunchy riffs and solos that are structured. The music is like a throwback to the 1970's feel with psychedelic charms and mid-tempo- guitar breaks that build to a rapturous climax. "Dreamin" is such a track with blues-soaked grooves and misty instrumentals. Other highlights include the foot-stomping 'Devil's Voice' and the final track "Human Salvation", a wondrous ending to this cosmic journey that includes a spoken word intro and a mesmerising jam outro between Braunstein and Stover. Overall, Sound of Smoke deliver an album of a whole new feeling to the summer of love with a reminiscent trip to an era of soul, blues with a rocky edge.
